We’re Going There For A Win

This week, we hear from Supporters Club Committee Member Masilo Machaka on the TKO last 16 results, as well as the upcoming quarter-final round.

On the Telkom Knockout Last 16 results

Firstly, I’ll start off with the encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. I think the Chiefs players played their hearts out, they showed character on the day and there was unity amongst them. They played for the badge of Kaizer Chiefs and I commend them for that. What really caught me by surprise though was the game between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns. Who would have thought that Sundowns would be knocked out of the tournament in the early stages? I don’t know how their supporters are feeling after the performances of their beloved team over the past few weeks and I’m sure they are asking themselves, ‘What’s next?’ They are out of the Telkom Knockout, but that’s football. Football is unpredictable – you win some and you lose some. Hard luck, Masandawana! Moving on, it is good to see Orlando Pirates progressing to the next round of the competition. Golden Arrows have been giving a lot of teams a hard time, but you must remember that it has never been easy for them to beat Pirates, especially in cup games. To me, the result wasn’t a surprise, as Bucs have been doing well.

On the quarter-final round of fixtures

Pirates are up against Polokwane City in the next round. Let’s see what they can do, but I think that the coach, Milutin Sredojevic, is slowly improving the team. But then again, they will be facing a good attack of Rise and Shine. Kaizer Chiefs v Chippa United is going to be a difficult one, as the Chilli Boys knocked out Sundowns. The guys (Chiefs) must not be overconfident, but Chippa mustn’t take us lightly. We have players that have the experience and can rise to the occasion when the chips are down, as well as youngsters who want to win silverware. We are not going to their home ground just to add numbers. We are going there for a win! We are going to fill up the stadium and there will be more Chiefs supporters to support our team. On the field of play, we are going to make sure that we don’t give them room to play.

On the Bafana squad for the World Cup Qualifiers against Senegal
I’m happy to see Siphiwe Tshabalala back in the team. The players that have been selected all deserve to be in the team and they must perform well for the country. We, as the supporters, must go out in numbers to rally behind them.

On Ian McLeod’s passing
It was sad to hear that we had lost such a great servant of our beautiful game. He was a soldier! I would like to send my condolences to his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched in one way or the other. He was the best referee that we ever had and we will always be grateful for the part that he played in our football.

Cheers,
Machaka

Vilakazi: It’s Been A While Since Sundowns Tasted Glory

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Sibusiso Vilakazi says that is has been a while since the Brazilians tasted glory but they will try their best to go all out and claim the Telkom Knockout Cup this season. Sundowns will lock horns with Chippa United later this month, October, in the round of 16 of the Telkom Knockout competition, with Head Coach Pitso Mosimane’s side keen to retain the trophy which they last won in 2015. Speaking after the TKO draw took place, Vilakazi revealed that after Sundowns failed to progress further than the quarter-final stages of the MTN8 competition, the Telkom Knockout will be an opportunity for the Chloorkop-based club to dust themselves off.  “It’s been a while since we tasted glory, in the form of a trophy on the domestic league. We will try by all means to get this one for the team, for ourselves and for the supporters. But with that said, we aren’t looking forward too much. We will take it one game at a time. First, there is Chip...
