Micho: Pitso Is The Alex Ferguson Of SA Football

Orlando Pirates head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, has commended his Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart, Pitso Mosimane, for his contribution to South African football. Sredojevic and Mosimane are preparing their teams for their upcoming match this week, where Bucs and Downs will meet in an Absa Premiership match at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday. Speaking to the media at a media open day ahead of the game, Bucs’ Serbian coach lauded Mosimane for what he has done for the local game. “We are playing a team that has proven themselves. They are still African champions at present. They are a very good group of individuals that are playing top class football as a team. They are having my very dear friend (Pitso Mosimane) for the last 15 years. Pitso Mosimane for me is (the) Alex Ferguson of South African football. It looks like an extraordinary league match for us and for them (Sundowns). We are totally focused and concentrated on the game,” said Sredojevic. The Bucc...

Sandilands: We Have Enough Quality

Wayne Sandilands believes that Orlando Pirates have enough quality in their team for them to get positive results. The Buccaneers are getting ready to host Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium for their Absa Premiership match of the season. Bucs are oozing with confidence at the moment, following their win against Golden Arrows in the Telkom Knockout. Last season, Pirates failed to beat Sundowns in both the league matches for the two sides. A 6-0 win for Pitso Mosimane’s side in the first match was followed by a 2-0 victory for the club. Sandilands, who was still at Sundowns when Pirates lost to them last season, says Bucs will have to stick to their game plan on Wednesday against their attack-minded opponents. “Firstly, I would just touch about last season – I think that’s in the past. I think for us we’ve started off this season well as Thabo (Matlaba) has said. So, it’s just a matter of pushing on and looking at what’s ahead of us and building on t...

Head Coach Baxter announced his official 25-man squad last week, where he made little changes to his setup used against Burkina Faso earlier in October. Siphiwe Tshabalala however, was the noticeable inclusion after the player made his return to the national team after almost four years. Speaking to the South African Football Association’s website, the Englishman says that there is only one option at this point and it is to obtain maximum points in both 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounters. “We have only one option – to win the remaining two games and book our ticket to Russia. Unfortunately, Roland Putsche failed to make decent contact with the ball as his effort went wide. Moments later, Baroka put a cross in the box which Mkhize failed to deal with but Sage Stephens reacted brilliantly to prevent Mzwanele Mahashe from scoring. Castro And Mosimane Not Seeing Eye To Eye, Exit Likely?

Leonardo Castro could be seeing out the final months of his contract at Mamelodi Sundowns, with Siya sources indicating that the Colombian and Head Coach Pitso Mosimane are not seeing eye to eye. The striker was offered a new and improved deal with the Brazilians some time back, however, the player has since been heavily linked with an exit from the Chloorkop-based club. The 28-year-old’s contract is set to come to an end next year, June 30, which means that the player will be free to agree to a pre-contract with any interested suitor from January next year. Siya sources have indicated that the Colombian’s exit from Masandawana seems more and more likely at this point, with the source also suggesting that Castro and Mosimane are no longer seeing eye to eye and an exit from Sundowns could be the most likely outcome at this point. Castro has recently been linked with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates and it remains to be seen where the player’s...

Mido loves a good plan

“We had a good game plan and we executed it very well,” reflected George ‘Mido’ Maluleka after receiving the Man of the Match award. “I like it when a plan comes together.” Maluleka was selected as the chief architect in Amakhosi’s 3-0 demolition job of AmaZulu in the Telkom Knockout Last 16. “I’m happy that we went through to the next round,” continued the elated midfielder, who scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute of the game. “Credit must go to the entire team. “As for the goal, I continuously work on my shooting. Often I stay behind on the ground after the official training session is finished to practice shots from long range, because these days it is rare to see me in the box.” “I will continue to work hard. It’s good to receive accolades after a good all-round team performance. As I mentioned on Thursday at the press conference, it’s all about consistency. We must now keep focused on the bigger objective of winning trophies.” “We are a big team,” Mido concludes. “Winnin...

What’s important is that we continue with what we have been doing.” Kaizer Chiefs collected four points from their last two league matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. “We have prepared accordingly for this one,” Komphela adds. “Much has been said about AmaZulu’s abilities, but despite this we are focused on our own preparedness. Sad to lose McLeod – Motaung

“It is devastating to lose Ian McLeod,” laments Chairman Kaizer Motaung upon receiving the tragic news of the passing of PSL match commissioner, Ian McLeod. “Even though I was informed about his sudden illness, one can’t anticipate when death will strike. Despite being short in stature he was large in character and we will certainly feel his loss deeply.” McLeod has been a dedicated servant of football for many years. His profile is of someone who has run and completed a race. “I’ve known Ian since his involvement with refereeing way back in the 80s,” reflects on McLeod, who was an excellent referee, before moving into a more administrative role. “His passion for the game is well documented. However, we will conquer them in their own backyard because we prepared well and we have a strong support in Durban.” “We have been playing a good game,” Mido referred to the 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns and a goalless stalemate in the Soweto Derby. “We hope to elevat...

In the ‘Coach’s Corner’ feature on Pirates’ official website, Micho has discussed the plans for Saturday’s crucial TKO game. “It is obvious that in matches like a derby, all players are focused and alert. It will be our job to ensure that the players are equally focused for the match against Golden Arrows. “With this type of match, there is no correction like you would have in the league. A cup game doesn’t cater for draws, there has to be a winner and a loser therefore coming into this match will need us to be firing on all cylinders. “At the end of Saturday, we will either be in the last 8 or we wo...

I am happy with me growing as a footballer, I am happy with learning from ...

Sources have alerted the Siya crew that despite earlier reports that Polokwane City intended to part ways with veteran striker Rendani Ndou, the Limpopo-based club may now look to retain the services of the 30-year-old forward.  Ndou has been with Rise and Shine for the past three years and reports surfaced that he could be making an exit when his contract comes to an end. However, Siya sources have revealed that City may look to keep the experienced striker at the club.    Earlier reports suggested that Ndou along with teammates Tshepo Tema and Randy Ngobe were left out in the cold by the club as they were no longer in the future plans of coach Bernard Molekwa. However, sources close to the club indicated that Ndou is in line for a two-year extension that would see him remain at the club until 2020.      Ndou signed a three-year deal with Polokwane City back in 2014 after Black Leopards failed to gain promotion to the P...

Molangoane hadn’t played this season in an official league match until the Sundowns clash, although the skilful player did come on in the 1-0 loss to SuperSport United in the first round of the MTN8 in August. “I had some issues with my stomach,” the 29-year-old explains his absence, “but I am now 100% again.” He played well in both matches, in particular in the second half against the Buccaneers, being a continuous threat and entertaining the supporters with some excellent dribbling. “I cherish those moments,” Molangoane talks about his feelings when hearing the crowd go wild after one of his act...

City have been experiencing a disappointing run of form of late, suffering two Absa Premiership defeats after their loss to SuperSport United in the 2017 MTN8 final.  However, the Mother City-based club will look to once again go all out in a cup competition, when they get their defending Telkom Knockout campaign underway with a clash against Absa Premiership log leaders, Baroka FC on Sunday, October 29. City were crowned the 2016 Telkom Knockout champions last...

Finalists! SuperSport Record Historic Victory In Tunisia

SuperSport United made history for their club on Sunday evening as they thumped Club Africain in their own backyard to reach their first ever CAF final. Matsatsantsa went into the clash at a disadvantage having conceded an away goal in the 1-1 draw at home, with the away goal giving the Tunisians the upper hand for the second leg. However, Bradley Grobler quickly nullified that as he headed home a bullet of a finish to make it 2-1 on aggregate, and when Jeremy Brockie made it 2-0 it looked as though SuperSport had done enough. Africain’s goal from the penalty spot was also made null and void shortly after it was scored, with Grobler bagging his brace.   Eric Tinkler – who has now reached his second CAF Confederation Cup final in three years, masterminded the Club Africain’s first loss in a CAF game at home since 2009, and will now be hoping to go one better than when he finished as a runner-up with Orlando Pirates in 2013.   SuperSport face TP M...

Tinkler: We’ve Beaten Them Before, We Can Do It Again!

Eric Tinkler knows that SuperSport United will face a tough opposition in the CAF Confederation Cup final, but is confident his side can perform against TP Mazembe. Matsatsantsa landed a famous victory in Tunisia last night as they beat Club Africain 3-1 (4-2 on aggregate) to reach their first ever CAF final, and are now just two matches away from winning a continental title.   Tinkler, who is now in his second CCC final in three years, believes that SuperSport can take heart from the fact that South African clubs have beaten Mazembe in the past, and scored two past them in Lubumbashi earlier this year.   Both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have beaten the Congolese giants in recent years, and though they will be a tough nut to crack, Tinkler is optimistic.   Speaking after the game, when asked about his final opponents, he told the media, “The final against TP Mazembe… You’re talking about a team that has a lot of experience...

NFD Coach Relieved Of His Duties

Struggling National Frist Division club, Ubuntu Cape Town, has parted ways with their coach Roger Links. The Mother City outfit lost 1-0 to Witbank Spurs at the weekend and the loss was their fourth from the eight games played this season. Ubuntu drew the other four games and are the only team that hasn’t won a game in the NFD this season. The team is at the bottom of the NFD log with four points out of a possible 24. The club has confirmed parting ways with Links, who has been their head coach.    The club confirmed that their technical director, Casey Prince, will take over the role of head coach with immediate effect.

Komphela Explains Pirates’ Dominance Over Chiefs

Steve Komphela says that Orlando Pirates dominated Kaizer Chiefs during the first half of the Soweto Derby because of the way that they planned for the game.   The Glamour Boys were unable to follow up their victory over Mamelodi Sundowns with a second consecutive win over the weekend, and for large parts of the game were outplayed by their Buccaneer neighbours.   With the game finishing 0-0 for the sixth time since 2010, Komphela believes that they had chances to win the game, and on another day it could’ve been a goal fest.   “We could have scored three goals. It could have been three-all,” Komphela told Chiefs’ official website.   “Pirates dominated because of the way they were setup, also overloading their midfield. We had to be patient and it was good to see that we kept our shape defensively.   “Our stabilising pass, the first after having won possession of the ball, was also not good and that’s why we struggled...

It could have been three-all – Komphela

Steve Komphela rued the missed goalscoring opportunities at the Soweto Derby. “We could have scored three goals.” However, he also agreed that Orlando Pirates could have netted a few times as well. “It could have been three-all,” the Amakhosi coach reflected. Komphela admitted that Chiefs did not really get out of the starting blocks in the first half: “Pirates dominated because of the way they were set-up, also overloading their midfield. We had to be patient and it was good to see that we kept our shape defensively. “Our stabilising pass, the first after having won possession of the ball, was also not good and that’s why we struggled to attack. As a result of this, Bernard Parker was left isolated up-front.” It was always going to be a bit tricky to play the Soweto Derby only four days after having had to go all out to beat another rival, Mamelodi Sundowns, the Chiefs coach felt. “Besides that,” Komphela added, “our opponents usually tweak their tactics against us. “That makes the...

Derby ends in stalemate

Kaizer Chiefs                       0 Orlando Pirates                  0 What Happened? Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates played to a goalless draw at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The first half of this Absa Premiership match was nothing to write home about, but there was a much improved display in the second half. It was Siphiwe Tshabalala’s 30th Soweto Derby and he would have loved to have collected the three points on the day, but it wasn’t to be. The first half was a tough one for Amakhosi with the Buccaneers having most of the ball possession and the better chances. The visitors already nearly opened the score in the fourth minute, but there was an excellent save from Itumeleng Khune, diving to his right. Pirates continued to be the more aggressive side. There was, however, some go...
