Bafana Bafana’s win over Burkina Faso this month has helped improve their FIFA ranking substantially, moving them up six places on the latest table.
Stuart Baxter’s side dropped to 80th last month after two shock defeats
to Cape Verde, and their ranking was also affected after their win over
Senegal was declared null and void by FIFA, after a replay was
ordered.
Now, while South Africa are still some way away from the top 50 that
they have been targeting, they are up to 74th and have made the biggest
positive move in the rankings since leaping 10 places back in October
2014.
Bafana are currently 16th in Africa as Tunisia take the top spot in the
country, with Nabil Maâloul’s side taking the spot as the continent’s
highest ranked team for October, closely followed by Egypt and then
Bafana’s next opponents, Senegal.
South Africa will be able to make a massive jump in their rankings spot
if they are able to beat the Senegalese twice next month and qualify
for Russia 2018.
