Wayne Sandilands believes that Orlando Pirates have enough quality in their team for them to get positive results.
The Buccaneers are getting ready to host Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium for their Absa Premiership match of the season. Bucs are oozing with confidence at the moment, following their win against Golden Arrows in the Telkom Knockout.
Last season, Pirates failed to beat Sundowns in both the league matches for the two sides. A 6-0 win for Pitso Mosimane’s side in the first match was followed by a 2-0 victory for the club.
Sandilands, who was still at Sundowns when Pirates lost to them last season, says Bucs will have to stick to their game plan on Wednesday against their attack-minded opponents.
“Firstly, I would just touch about last season – I think that’s in the past. I think for us we’ve started off this season well as Thabo (Matlaba) has said. So, it’s just a matter of pushing on and looking at what’s ahead of us and building on the foundations that we have placed already thus far in the season,” the goalkeeper said in a media open day.
“Secondly, I’d just echo what the coach (Milutin Sredojevic) has said, and yes, they (Sundowns) have a very good attack (and) they have very good players. So it’s up to us to stick to our game plan (and) stick to our way of playing. I think if we can get that right, and get the best out of ourselves – like the coach says – we have enough talent, we have enough quality in our team to get positive results,” said Sandilands.
