Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw against Platinum Stars in an Absa
Premiership match on Wednesday night, Orlando Pirates coach Milutin
Sredojevic bemoaned his side’s lack of killer instinct in attack.
The Buccaneers were by far the better side, but their finishing in front of goal let them down.
Pirates managed to open the scoring one minute into the second half,
courtesy of captain Thabo Matlaba, but conceded minutes later when
Bonginkosi Ntuli equalised for Platinum Stars.
“I am happy with the way we were patient in possession, but we were
very infertile going forward,” Sredojevic told SuperSport after the
game.
“We were creating enough, but not scoring enough.
“Football has shown us a very cruel aspect of the game that when you
score a goal, if you are not concentrating for (the) next two, three
minutes, and we were not settled emotionally after celebrating the goal,
we conceded immediately after.
“It was not easy to create chances because the opponent (Platinum
Stars) was sitting back and defending, and fighting for the point.
“Unfortunately it was one of those games where the domination did not make the difference.”
Looking ahead to the big Soweto Derby on Saturday against Pirates, the
Buccaneers coach admitted there are some aspects of the game they need
to work on.
“There are many things we need to correct before Saturday, but all of
us will rise to the occasion because we know what it means.
“Saturday’s game is not only for three points, it is for much more,” added Sredojevic.
