Nice to be back – Molangoane

“It’s nice to be back,” reflects Joseph ‘Tight’ Molangoane after having started in Kaizer Chiefs’ last two matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. “These were two top level games played at a high intensity. We got four points from these matches, which is a fair result.”

Amakhosi beat the Brazilians 2-1 last week and played to a goalless draw against the Buccaneers on Saturday.

Molangoane hadn’t played this season in an official league match until the Sundowns clash, although the skilful player did come on in the 1-0 loss to SuperSport United in the first round of the MTN8 in August.

“I had some issues with my stomach,” the 29-year-old explains his absence, “but I am now 100% again.”

He played well in both matches, in particular in the second half against the Buccaneers, being a continuous threat and entertaining the supporters with some excellent dribbling. “I cherish those moments,” Molangoane talks about his feelings when hearing the crowd go wild after one of his actions. “I do it for them. At the same time, the team always comes first, every action needs to serve a purpose.”

On Saturday another cup game awaits – a Telkom Knockout Last 16 fixture against AmaZulu at Chiefs’ alternative home ground at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 28 October (kick-off is at 20:15).

“I love to play in Durban,” Molangoane comments, “because if we play there, our supporters always fill up the stadium.”

The Glamour Boys last won the Telkom Knockout trophy on 4 December 2010 after beating Orlando Pirates 3-0 in the final at FNB Stadium. Sthembiso Ngcobo scored a brace, before Siphiwe Tshabalala added the third goal.

“Everyone in the team wants to win this cup,” Molangoane says about the Telkom Knockout competition, “it would be a nice Christmas present for our supporters, who have been so loyal to us. However, it is still a long road to go. We will take it one step at a time and facing AmaZulu on Saturday will be the first hurdle to cross.”

Vilakazi: It’s Been A While Since Sundowns Tasted Glory

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Sibusiso Vilakazi says that is has been a while since the Brazilians tasted glory but they will try their best to go all out and claim the Telkom Knockout Cup this season. Sundowns will lock horns with Chippa United later this month, October, in the round of 16 of the Telkom Knockout competition, with Head Coach Pitso Mosimane’s side keen to retain the trophy which they last won in 2015. Speaking after the TKO draw took place, Vilakazi revealed that after Sundowns failed to progress further than the quarter-final stages of the MTN8 competition, the Telkom Knockout will be an opportunity for the Chloorkop-based club to dust themselves off.  “It’s been a while since we tasted glory, in the form of a trophy on the domestic league. We will try by all means to get this one for the team, for ourselves and for the supporters. But with that said, we aren’t looking forward too much. We will take it one game at a time. First, there is Chip...

We’re Going There For A Win

This week, we hear from Supporters Club Committee Member Masilo Machaka on the TKO last 16 results, as well as the upcoming quarter-final round.     On the Telkom Knockout Last 16 results    Firstly, I’ll start off with the encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. I think the Chiefs players played their hearts out, they showed character on the day and there was unity amongst them. They played for the badge of Kaizer Chiefs and I commend them for that. What really caught me by surprise though was the game between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns. Who would have thought that Sundowns would be knocked out of the tournament in the early stages? I don’t know how their supporters are feeling after the performances of their beloved team over the past few weeks and I’m sure they are asking themselves, ‘What’s next?’ They are out of the Telkom Knockout, but that’s football. Football is unpredictable – you win some and you lose some. Ha...
