Micho On TKO: We Have Ambitions To Win The Cup

Orlando Pirates aim to win their first trophy under Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic with the Telkom Knockout.

The first assignment for the Serbian coach and the team will be the game against Golden Arrows this weekend.

Sredojevic has emphasized that while the team is in a transition period and a building process, they are keen to win trophies along the way.

In the ‘Coach’s Corner’ feature on Pirates’ official website, Micho has discussed the plans for Saturday’s crucial TKO game.

“It is obvious that in matches like a derby, all players are focused and alert. It will be our job to ensure that the players are equally focused for the match against Golden Arrows.

“With this type of match, there is no correction like you would have in the league. A cup game doesn’t cater for draws, there has to be a winner and a loser therefore coming into this match will need us to be firing on all cylinders.

“At the end of Saturday, we will either be in the last 8 or we won't. We have to have the same brand of football and the same level of commitment as we have shown in the derby.

We have ambitions to win this cup, but this is a sentiment shared by 15 other coaches in the league. It’s for us to show that we want it more than the next team and we do this by treating each match as the most important match in our calendar,” said Sredojevic.

The task for Sredojevic and the team is to improve from last season where the team finished without a trophy and outside of the top eight.

“When you are wearing the Orlando Pirates jersey, the expectations are at the highest. Yes, we are in a transition period and in a building process after last year's disastrous season, but we shall always give our best and not give up.

“All that we do though has to be done properly, without putting too much pressure on the players so that they are at their best to perform, to be able to express themselves and enjoy the game,” explained the coach.

Vilakazi: It’s Been A While Since Sundowns Tasted Glory

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Sibusiso Vilakazi says that is has been a while since the Brazilians tasted glory but they will try their best to go all out and claim the Telkom Knockout Cup this season. Sundowns will lock horns with Chippa United later this month, October, in the round of 16 of the Telkom Knockout competition, with Head Coach Pitso Mosimane’s side keen to retain the trophy which they last won in 2015. Speaking after the TKO draw took place, Vilakazi revealed that after Sundowns failed to progress further than the quarter-final stages of the MTN8 competition, the Telkom Knockout will be an opportunity for the Chloorkop-based club to dust themselves off.  “It’s been a while since we tasted glory, in the form of a trophy on the domestic league. We will try by all means to get this one for the team, for ourselves and for the supporters. But with that said, we aren’t looking forward too much. We will take it one game at a time. First, there is Chip...

We’re Going There For A Win

This week, we hear from Supporters Club Committee Member Masilo Machaka on the TKO last 16 results, as well as the upcoming quarter-final round.     On the Telkom Knockout Last 16 results    Firstly, I’ll start off with the encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. I think the Chiefs players played their hearts out, they showed character on the day and there was unity amongst them. They played for the badge of Kaizer Chiefs and I commend them for that. What really caught me by surprise though was the game between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns. Who would have thought that Sundowns would be knocked out of the tournament in the early stages? I don’t know how their supporters are feeling after the performances of their beloved team over the past few weeks and I’m sure they are asking themselves, ‘What’s next?’ They are out of the Telkom Knockout, but that’s football. Football is unpredictable – you win some and you lose some. Ha...
