Mr Leboa was an encyclopaedia of football – Motaung

“We received the news of the passing of Mr Dan Leboa with deep sadness,” lamented Chairman Kaizer Motaung after hearing about the passing of the late football administrator and former PSL General Manager of Football, Mr Dan Leboa. “Mr Leboa was an encyclopaedia of football. We relied on him for many aspects of football administration.”

Mr Leboa passed away on Friday, 13 October 2017.

“I vividly remember him as an ardent and committed football administrator,” reflects Motaung. “Mr Leboa was hard working and served football with honour and dignity. He has left an indelible mark in football.”

“His contribution to the development of football is known,” referred Motaung to Mr Leboa’s stellar football profile. “My first encounter with him was way back in the 70s. He served both at club level (Orlando Pirates) and subsequently also at the PSL, where he worked as a Chief Gate Controller. “He made a big contribution in the formation of the NSL and later the PSL, which makes his name to be cast in iron in the history books of football in our country.”

“The Leboa family have lost a key member in their family tree,” said Motaung. “It is a difficult time for the them, I know. I wish the family well at this difficult moment. They should find solace for Mr Leboa had a very good innings. He left a great legacy and it is for the family to embrace that and take the baton and run with it.”

On a lighter note, Mr Leboa loved his jazz music and his favourite musician was John William Coltrane, also known as ‘Trane’, who was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. “We used Mr Leboa ‘John Coltrane’,” concluded a visible saddened Motaung.

May his soul rest in peace. Mr Dan Leboa may be gone but he will never be forgotten.

This week, we hear from Supporters Club Committee Member Masilo Machaka on the TKO last 16 results, as well as the upcoming quarter-final round. On the Telkom Knockout Last 16 results Firstly, I’ll start off with the encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. I think the Chiefs players played their hearts out, they showed character on the day and there was unity amongst them. They played for the badge of Kaizer Chiefs and I commend them for that. What really caught me by surprise though was the game between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns. Who would have thought that Sundowns would be knocked out of the tournament in the early stages?
