A goal for the Chairman – Ngezana

“Be focused, play your game and everything will fall into place. You will become the Man of the Match and score a goal.” Those were the prophetic words Steve Komphela told Siyabonga Ngezana before the 20-year-old made his Kaizer Chiefs debut against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night.

“It’s great if a coach believes in you,” reflected the defender on his sterling performance against the Brazilians.

And, as the Amakhosi coach predicted, Ngezana scored with his head in the 50th minute the opening goal, while walking away as well with the Absa Premiership Man of the Match award. “That goal was for the Chairman’s birthday,” the youngster points out, referring to Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung’s 73rd birthday on Monday.

The lanky defender did well in the three MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) games he participated in this season, scoring the first goal in Chiefs Reserves’ 3-0 thumping of Bidvest Wits Reserves.

Ngezana also netted in the recent 4-2 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic to win the 2017 Macufe Cup.

That’s when coach Komphela realised that the talented youngster was ready to join Daniel Cardoso and Erick Mathoho in defence against a formidable side like Sundowns.

Ngezana admits that he struggled to sleep after the game. “We were only at around midnight back at the Chiefs Village,” he says. “Thereafter, I drove home to Sebokeng in the Vaal. My family was still awake when I arrived there and they obviously wanted to hear all about my debut.”

The Soweto Derby waits on Saturday. “I take instructions from the coach,” he reacts on the question how he’s looking forward to that match. “It’s all about the coach’s plan for the game and how I will fit in that strategy. Although, of course, it would be something very special if I would be able to play a role.”

“What you put in is what you get out,” Ngezana points out the importance of being a professional on and off the pitch. He makes clear that he will keep both feet firmly on the ground. He concludes by saying, “It’s all thanks to the God almighty.”

Vilakazi: It’s Been A While Since Sundowns Tasted Glory

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Sibusiso Vilakazi says that is has been a while since the Brazilians tasted glory but they will try their best to go all out and claim the Telkom Knockout Cup this season. We’re Going There For A Win

This week, we hear from Supporters Club Committee Member Masilo Machaka on the TKO last 16 results, as well as the upcoming quarter-final round. On the Telkom Knockout Last 16 results Firstly, I’ll start off with the encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. I think the Chiefs players played their hearts out, they showed character on the day and there was unity amongst them. They played for the badge of Kaizer Chiefs and I commend them for that. What really caught me by surprise though was the game between Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns. Who would have thought that Sundowns would be knocked out of the tournament in the early stages?
